VOLUNTEERING BEYOND COVID-19

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the St Vincent de Paul Society, especially at this challenging time.

The St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria is continuing to respond to the growing challenges of the COVID-19 outbreak and while some of our services may look a little different temporarily, we emphasise that – we are still here.

A number of our shops are still in operation, which means our Transport team are working hard to ensure are shops and warehouses are stocked and operating efficiently. Things are changing daily and we are working hard to provide the most accurate and up to date information as we hear it.

It’s important to know we are actively recruiting for Truck Drivers and Jockeys at this time, as we need you to support the future rebuild in our communities. If Transport is specifically where you wish to support, we can place you on our wait-list and when things are looking brighter (which they will) we will get in touch to discuss the options with you.  We will also provide you with updates along the way to keep you informed of the things the Society are doing to help during this time.

Please read below to learn more about the volunteering process and instructions on how to join our wait-list.

VOLUNTEER WITH US, BECAUSE GOOD WORKS!

Who: Volunteers to help our Transport team

When: To be confirmed, but for now, we will place you on our wait-list

Where: In our following warehouses - Altona, Dandenong, Shepparton and Ballarat.

You can click here to open up our Vinnies map. You can enter your postcode in the search bar and it will show you what Vinnies warehouses are in your area.

Please note: You will also be able to see various other volunteer opportunities available. If you do not want to view these you can untick them on the left hand column. If you see any other opportunities that interest you, you can view these in more detail here.

Requirements: For a Truck Driver position you will need to hold a HR licence to be and the ability to lift 25kgs. For a Jockey position you will not need a HR Licence but you will need to be able to lift 25kgs. Both roles require you to be physically fit, reliable with a great ‘can do’ attitude! This is an opportunity to utilise your skills in a role that contributes positively to your community whilst keeping you active. A Working with Children’s Check, Police Check and full medical is required before you commence. These are arranged and paid for by St Vincent de Paul.

What might I be doing: Picking up and delivering donations from various locations including our Shops and Warehouses.

Learn more about Vinnies!

St Vincent de Paul Society has over 110 retail shops across Victoria known as “Vinnies”, selling new and pre-loved fashion and homewares. The beauty of our Vinnies Shops is that you never know what unique and special treasures you might find! Over 12 million items were sold within our retail shops last year, which saved 12 million items from going to landfill!

The proceeds from items sold in our Shops go directly into our communities to help support some of the most vulnerable people that may be experiencing hardship and loneliness.

Across 9 Soup Vans we were able to provide over 88 thousand meals to people that would have potentially gone hungry.

40,000 calls for welfare assistance were answered last year in our Call Centre and assistance was given in the form of material goods, food vouchers and of course a compassionate ear.

Our 5 Education Programs offered reading, companionship, and homework help to 977 students who attended the programs in 2019.

None of this would be possible without our Vinnies Shops.
