VOLUNTEER WITH THE VINNIES NO INTEREST LOAN SCHEME (NILS) PROGRAM TO GIVE A HAND UP AND CONTRIBUTE TO GOOD WORKS

About Us

Vinnies NILS is a No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) provider offering no interest loans of up to $2,000 to people on low incomes for the purchase of essential goods and services including whitegoods, educational expenses such as laptops and iPads, medical costs and equipment, as well as vehicle and household repairs, and more. Loans are paid back over a period of up to 24 months. Our NILS program offers access safe, fair, and accessible credit for people and family on low incomes. It offers people freedom to make choices to support themselves and their families. This can make a major difference – such as purchasing a washing machine, meaning no more laundromat trips, or purchasing more energy-efficient appliances and saving money on energy bills.

The incredible efforts of our volunteers within the NILS program gives people self-agency and choice and our program is supported by our brilliant and dedicated volunteers, but with the cost of living impacting so many Victorians we are needing extra support now more than ever.

In the last Financial Year our NILS program assisted 367 households across Victoria with no interest loans, and we are dedicated to helping everyone we can.

What is involved?

Vinnies NILS volunteers will receive hands on training from Good Shepherd Microfinance, and your good works will include:

  • Responding to enquiries by phone or email
  • Sending out loan application packs to prospective borrowers via mail or email
  • Collecting and checking loan application documents
  • Entering information into the specialised NILS software

Eligibility & Important Information

All NILS volunteers must be 18 years and older and be able to commit only a couple of hours per week for at least six months.

We can support TAFE and University placements within our NILS program and welcome applications from students.
